Lineage/What you own

Coverage

The complicated half is the whole point.

Any app can total up a salary account and a mutual fund folio. Wealth stops being that simple the moment your first grant vests, your first fund calls capital, or a property goes into your father’s name. Those are the parts that need governing, so those are the parts this was built for.

The principle

A holding you can’t see is a holding you can’t govern.

Every class below is a first-class citizen: it carries its own documents, its own valuation basis, its own tax treatment, and its own governance checks. Nothing sits in an “other assets” bucket with a number you typed in once and forgot.

Liabilities sit against the asset they encumber, not in a separate list. A property worth two million with a loan of nine hundred thousand against it is one position, shown as one position.

What we read

Send the document. Not a summary of it.

The documents below are the ones families already receive and already ignore. Each one produces different facts, and each is reconciled differently. You never have to know which is which — forward it and the platform works out what it is.

Document types and what they establish
What you forward What it establishes How it’s proven
Consolidated account statement One document covering both depositories and every fund folio — in India a CAS from NSDL or CDSL already spans both, so it doubles as the depository statement. Units and quantities rebuilt from transactions must match the closing balance printed.
Custodian statement Holdings sitting outside the depository system — an overseas brokerage, a portfolio management account, or a direct custodian relationship. Positions reconciled against the custodian’s own stated totals.
Broker contract notes and P&L Trades, realised gains, charges and the holding period behind each. Trade-by-trade sum must equal the broker’s stated summary figure.
Grant letters and vesting reports What was granted, what has vested, what is still ahead. Vested plus unvested must reconcile to the total granted.
Capital-call and distribution notices Commitment, capital called to date, and what has come back. Called plus uncalled reconciled against the stated commitment.
Bank and loan statements Balances, interest paid, and the outstanding principal on each loan. Opening plus movements must land on the printed closing balance.
Pre-filled tax data What the tax authority already believes about your year — the AIS and Form 26AS in India, wage and information returns elsewhere. Cross-checked against your own documents; disagreements are surfaced.
Property papers and rent agreements Ownership, share held, encumbrance and income. Recorded with basis stated; valuation is labelled an estimate, never proven.
Policy documents Sum assured, premium, term, and who is named on it. Read for cover and for the beneficiary check — the second matters more.

Where the line sits

Proven, estimated, and never mixed.

A share price is a fact. A flat’s market value is an opinion. Both belong in your picture; treating them as the same kind of number is how families end up confidently wrong about where they stand.

Every total carries both figures separately. You can always see what your net worth is if only the provable parts count.

Proven Reconciles to a document

Units, balances, quantities and cash that rebuild exactly against a figure the source itself prints. These enter your net worth as fact.

Estimated Stated on a clear basis

Property values, unlisted stakes, gold at prevailing rate. Shown with the basis and the date, and totalled separately from the proven figure.

Flagged Something disagrees

Two documents that can’t both be true, or arithmetic that won’t close. Held out of the total, shown to you with the reason.

Bring the awkward ones first.

The grant letter, the fund notice, the property papers. Those are the ones nothing else has ever held.
